Demand
for Wimbledon tickets has for decades exceeded supply.Way back as
afr as 1924 a public ballot was introduced whereby a large number
of Centre and No.1 Court tickets are sold in advance. Many tickets
are also sold through The Lawn Tennis Association to their affliated
tennis clubs, schools, membership scheme and to foreign tennis associations.
Each
year there is increasing pressure on The Championships to move tickets
out of the public allocation but the policy of The
Lawn Tennis Association has
always been to refuse to do so. They believe that genuine tennis
fans should have access to their favourite event and that they contribute
greatly to the special atmosphere at The Championships.
In
1991 further measures were introduced to minimise the black market
sale of tickets to ensure that tickets would be used by the people
who originally bought them.
Ticket
Availability
Approximately 500 tickets
each for Centre and No.1 Court reserved seats are available daily,
EXCEPT for the last four days on Centre Court which are presold.
Approximately 500 No.2 Court seat tickets are available each day
only for as many days as a full programme of matches can be maintained.
Approximately 6000
ground tickets are available each day. The actual number sold each
day will depend on factors such as the number of people already
in the grounds, the number of courts in play and the weather. Ground
tickets entitle use of the No.2 Court standing enclosure and unreserved
seating and standing round Courts 3-19.
Tickets are sold on
a strictly one per person queueing basis. The Honorary Stewards
operate a 'Code of Conduct' for queues and will arbitrate in any
dispute. Your position in the queue cannot be reserved by the placing
of equipment - you must be present in person. If you genuinely need
to leave the queue for a short period, advise those in front and
behind you to avoid problems on your return. Club officials cannot
save places in the queue.
